Installing a dishwasher is not a very complicated job and doesn't need any specific tools. We have already talked about necessary tools for appliance repair. Having these tools can help you properly install your dishwasher.
Here we are going to teach you how to install your dishwasher in some easy steps:
Connecting the electricity of the dishwasher during installation
Most of the dishwasher connections, both the electrical connections and the pipes are located behind a panel at the front of the dishwasher. You can bend down to reach the panel or choose the easier way, lie the dishwasher on its back, remove the panel and access the inner parts.
So, before installing the dishwasher, you should remove the panel to see the electric wires, water inlet valve and drain water pipes.
Follow these steps to install the electricity of the dishwasher.
- Make sure your dishwasher is unplugged.
- Uncover the dishwasher electric box.
- Enter the power cord into the box and connect the wires.
- Connect the black wire to the black wire.
- Connect the Neutral white wire to the white wire in the electric box.
- Attach the green earth wire to the earth screw of the box.
- Cover the electric box and tighten its screws.
Note: it's better not to use extension sockets and plug the dishwasher directly to the main socket.
Connecting the pipes when installing the dishwasher
- The first thing you should do is turning off the water inlet valve under the sink.
- Wrap the inlet valve with Teflon band to avoid any leaking.
- Now attach the steel water hose of the dishwasher and tighten it with your hand, then turn it a quarter turn to completely tighten.
- Connect the other end of the hose to the back part of the dishwasher.
- Use Teflon band to completely water seal the connection point.
- Now connect the angled end of the hose to the dishwasher and tighten it by hand and then by a wrench.
- Cover this connection with more Teflon band.
- Turn on the water valve and make sure there is no leak.
Tip: dishwashers are usually connected to hot water during installation. It can be connected to cold water in some models too, but hot water is preferred. Make sure to study the appliance manual to get aware of your dishwasher conditions.
Note: don't tighten the connections excessively in order to prevent the threads breaking.
Warning: the electric main socket should be 1.20 cm away from the dishwasher, not just behind it.
Connecting the drain pump during dishwasher installation
The drain hose can be directly inserted into the drain exit hole in the wall at the back of the appliance. If there isn't any hole there, connect it to the bottom part of the sink.
In order to connect the drain hose to the water outlet under the sink,
- First open the clamp of the hose. If the pipe is made of PVC, you can easily do it by hand.
- When the hose is properly connected to the sink, use a screwdriver to tighten the clamp at the end of the hose.
- Use another pipe clamp to raise the drain hose almost 90 cm and fix it on the wall. This is necessary to prevent the drain water to return into the dishwasher.
- Connect the other end of the hose to its place at the back of the dishwasher
Locating and levelling during dishwasher installation
- Adjust the leveling legs at the bottom of the dishwasher to have the desired height.
- Turning the legs counterclockwise raise the height and turning them clockwise lowers the dishwasher height.
- Now you are ready to plug in the dishwasher and turn on the water main valve.
- If there isn't any leaking, turn on the machine and let it work to make sure it's not faulty.
- Now you can enjoy your dishes being cleaned without your interference.
Tip: if you noticed that the dishwasher door is slightly declined to the left or right after installation, it means the appliance is not level. So, you should again use the leveling legs to adjust the height of your dishwasher.
