Warning: since your dishwasher works with water, unplug it before any service or repair operation in order to prevent any electric shock.
Incorrect plumbing can make the dishwasher leak
Check the dishwasher water supply line and the drain hose. Dry the pipes with a piece of cloth so that you can see any tear or hole. The pipes should be replaced in case of any leaking.
Note: In order to prevent the backflow and leaking, the drain hose inlet should be 65 cm above the ground and the hose should enter the drain exit at a maximum of 15 cm.
Faulty drain pump can cause dishwasher to leak
The drain pump drains the water out of the dishwasher as its name indicates. If it is faulty, no water is drained and might leak from the bottom of the dishwasher. If the faulty drain pump is the reason for your dishwasher leaking, remove it and check whether it is obstructed or not. If the pump is leaking from axle, nothing can be done and it should be replaced.
Faulty pressure switch can make the dishwasher leak
The pressure switch examines the water level in the dishwasher. If it is faulty, the appliance may leak from underneath. Check the pressure switch using a multimeter adjusted on the ohmmeter. If there is any problem, replace it.
Note: modern new dishwashers don't have any pressure switch and everything is done electronically by the control board.
Obstructed wash pump is a reason for dishwasher leaking
Dishwasher wash pump pumps the water to the spray arms. If it is leaking from the axle, nothing can be done to fix it and should be repaired. The pump is located under the dishwasher and the kick panel should be removed to access it.
Tip: most modern dishwashers have two pumps. One main pump to wash the dishes and another pump to drain water out of the appliance.
Warning: wash pump has sharp edges. So, wear safety gloves before inspecting it.
Clogged pressure chamber can cause dishwasher leaking
The pressure chamber helps the pressure switch to check the water level in the dishwasher. It can be gradually clogged with debris and disrupts the pressure switch function too. In order to solve this problem, remove the pressure chamber and clean it. You should detach the pipe to the pressure switch and clean the chamber with water pressure. You can use a syringe to do that.
A hole in the tub can be a reason for dishwasher leaking
The dishwasher tub is made of stainless steel. But it can be corroded and get some holes because of the salt used during the wash cycle. The hole can be filled by cold welding.
Note: in order to prevent the tub from corrosion and having holes, wipe away any excess salt after filling the salt reservoir. Then start the wash cycle.
The loose screw of lower spray arm can cause dishwasher to leak
The screw on the bracket holding the lower spray arm may loosen gradually. So the water leaks from the dishwasher underneath and before that, runs straight to the motor. So, check the screw and tighten it if necessary.
